The consumption of Genetically Modified Food, presently in large stock on shelves of major supermarkets across the country could pose great danger to consumers and the environment.
Dr Cashmir Ifeanyi of the University of Abuja, made the assertion at a conference held in Abuja, tagged Mother Earth Foundation Conference.
He stressed the need to enlighten Nigerians about the health and environmental implications of consuming Genetically Modified food
Some farmers present at the conference share their experiences with GM seeds.
On his part Chikezie Omeje a science and investigative journalist encouraged Nigerians to embrace GMO and its benefits as they have come to stay and remain the only option to fighting food insecurity, he called on relevant regulatory agencies to ensure the importation of only safe genetically modified products.
